Finding the right book isn’t as difficult as finding the right man, but it can be damn close. You won’t know if it’s the right one unless you start reading it. However, if you read many books or several at once, it can end really badly. So, how do you choose the book without opening it?
You could read the reviews but that rarely helps, because you don’t know these people, you have no idea what they like or if you have any interests in common. You could ask your friends but even though they are your friends, they not necessarily read the same books. I have a friend who reads completely different books and I would never ask recommendation from that person. You could use Goodreads or something like that, but to have really good recommendations, you should read in English and put a lot of effort in noting everything you like or disliked. You see – I don’t know a way how to find the right book. If you want to be adventurous and read something new, it’s nearly impossible to do that. So, I’m going to the time tested and incredibly wrong method – choosing a book by its cover. If I decide that a cover is somehow interesting, you would read that book. You have to trust your instincts and just go for it.
As I said, in a way choosing a book is like choosing a man. You have to trust your gut and simply go for it. There is no other choice. Or do you have a better solution?
